Gary was born on June 22, 1941 on the family farm in Duerr Township, near Lidgerwood, North Dakota. He grew up on the farm and attended country school. Gary worked on the family farm for a number of years until he was drafted into the US Army in January of 1964. He was stationed overseas and was an aircraft mechanic. Gary was honorably discharged in January of 1966 from active duty and placed in the Army Reserves until 1970. Gary returned to farming near Lidgerwood with his family. Gary was married to Laurie Jensen on June 24, 1972 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rural Lidgerwood. He later began working as a mechanic at an automotive and implement dealer in Lidgerwood. In 1986, he began working for the Wahpeton Canvas Company. Gary moved to Sioux Falls in 1999 and was a mechanic for Ryder Trucking until he retired in 2009. Gary enjoyed fishing, woodworking, watching old western tv shows and movies and restoring old tractors. Gary always enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He loved animals and had many pets that he loved. Gary was a 50 year member of the American Legion. Gary passed away peacefully at home on December 3, 2017 surrounded by family, after a very long battle with cancer. Gary is survived by his wife, Laurie; 3 children and their spouses, Gary Lee Jr. and Lezlie Marohl of Baltic, David Paul and Brynn Marohl of Sioux Falls, Amanda Jo Marohl and Troy Murphy of Renner; 7 grandchildren, Madison, Taylor, Payton, Gabe, Matthew, Blake and Jayden; 10 siblings, Loel (Judy), Joyce, Robert (Kathy), Shirley (John), Dallas (Cari), DeAnna (Tim), Theodore, Michael (Christy), Jeffrey, Jonathan (Sharon) and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Evelyn (Gruenberg) Marohl and a sister-in-law Karen.
