Elizabeth "Betty" Nearman

Elizabeth Betty Jane Nearman, age 97, died March 12, 2017 in Sioux Falls. Betty was born February 25, 1920 in Sioux City, Iowa to Howard and Vera Reeves Kapsen. The family moved to Sioux Falls when she was a child. After graduating from Washington High School, Betty married Russell Nearman on July 16, 1938. They were married for 60 years and were blessed with six children. Betty was a charter member of St. Lambert Catholic Church and a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She and Russ enjoyed dancing, playing cards, traveling and family celebrations. Her family and friends appreciated her cooking and baking skills which included delicious meals and pastries. In addition to being a homemaker, Betty also worked at the Pan O Gold Baking Company, Drs. Rooney and Howlin Optical and the U.S. Census Bureau. She is survived by her children, Sally Pratt (Robert) of Milledgeville, GA, Lance Nearman (Jeanne) of Omaha, NE, Susan (Donald) Townley of Sioux City, IA, Patricia Jones of San Antonio, TX, Mark (MaryAnn) Nearman of Monroe, WI, Pamela (Tom) Boe of Sioux Falls; 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell; a brother, Howard Kapsen, Jr.; granddaughters, Cynthia Wylie and Christy Hohne; great grandson, Austin Hohne; and son-in-law, Steve Jones. Her family expresses thanks for wonderful care given to Betty at Avera Prince of Peace.
