Gordon Schmuck was born July 26, 1928 at Luverne, Minnesota to Dietrich and Maymie (Wahlert) Schmuck. He attended country school near Hardwick, Minnesota through the 8th grade. Gordon came to Sioux Falls and began working at John Morrell Company in 1944. He worked there until the Korean War began and then served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953. Following his discharge, Gordon returned to Morrells and worked until he retired in 1985 after 41 years at the plant. Gordon was always willing to help out his family. Over the years, Gordon also took care of both of his parents. He was a member of the American Legion Post 15 in Sioux Falls for over 60 years. He enjoyed gardening, yardwork and going out for a walk. Gordon is survived by his siblings, Audrey Aljets of Brandon, Donna Hoh, Jimmie (Yvonne) Schmuck, Howard (Delores) Schmuck, Virginia (Paul) Bickett, Steve (Debra) Schmuck, all of Sioux Falls, and Dale (Gail) Wendland of California; sister in law, Thayes Schmuck; brother in law, Sam Vanderwerf; 22 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Elaine Stroh, Dorothy Vanderwerf and Richard Schmuck.
