Charlene was born July 31, 1922 at Maquoketa, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Lillie (Ruff) Schroeder. She grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School in 1940. As a young lady, she worked at Coney Island and Rays Drive-in. Charlene married Howard Cone on July 2, 1952 at Pipestone, Minnesota and they lived in Sioux Falls where they raised their family. Charlene worked at Shriverss and Fantels department stores before beginning a long career at Woolworths, where she held many positions and advanced to personnel manager. She then worked at US Bank until she retired in 1987. She enjoyed reading, painting, embroidery and baking. Charlene was a skilled sewer and made clothing and coats for her children for many years. She was a member of the Elks and Kiwanis Club and volunteered as a driver for meals on wheels. Charlene is survived by her daughters, Cindy Boehrns of Charlotte, NC, Jerri (Duane) Anderson of Harrisburg, Candy (Robert) Burdine of Sioux Falls, and Char (Wayne) Johansen of Minneapolis, MN; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard in 1995; a son, Jack; and a sister, Paula.
