Jack was born on March 8, 1939 at Watertown, South Dakota, son of John and Audrey (Krohn) Gabert. He attended school at Sioux Falls and Huron. As a young man, Jack learned how to paint and hang dry wall in Huron working with his step-father, Clyde Johnson. He was married to Mary Sherwood until 1974 and together they had a son, Shannon. He met Jean Darger in 1976 and together they had a son, Bret, in 1983. Jack worked with the City of Sioux Falls in the Street Department for several years. He was a heavy equipment operator with Merle and Roys Paving, First Rate Excavating and Asphalt Surfacing. He retired in 2001. He also kept himself busy with handyman projects for other people. He enjoyed fishing and camping for many years. He also enjoyed dancing and the Rainbow Bar was one of his favorite places back in the day. Another love of Jacks was cars. He took pride in the care of the vehicles he had as well as offering to help maintain vehicles at a local business. Jack was 76 years old when he passed away March 14, 2015 at Southridge Care Center in Sioux Falls. He is survived by his children, Shannon (Stacie) Gabert of Brandon, Bret Gabert (fianc, Amber) of Dickinson, ND, and Tim Duddeck; two granddaughters, Lauren and Jorden; and a sister, Donna. He is preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Kristian; and a sister, Margie.
