Della was born November 21,1907 at Axtell, Kansas to Carl and Matilda (Carlson) Swanson. She grew up on the farm in Kansas and attended country school. She moved with her family to South Dakota. Della married Charles Perkins on August 16, 1924. They owned the Shady Lane General Store near The Buffalo Trading Post. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1939. She later worked at Fantles and Sioux Falls Towel and Linen. Della was very family oriented and helped her family with their businesses. She enjoyed playing solitaire, tending her flower garden and trips in the car. Grateful for sharing her life are her daughters, Tressie Sittig, Sioux Falls, Evelyn Tiesen, Tuscon, Arizona, Dolly (Dale) Stockel, Tuscon, Arizona and Betty Anderson, Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. Della was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles in 1987, four sons, Harold, Jesse, Glen and infant son, Elmer; also two grandchildren and three sisters and four brothers.
