Donald was born September 22, 1926 to William and Ida (Wendland) Meyer on the family farm near Jasper, Minnesota. He was raised on the farm and attended school near Jasper. Don farmed with his father and helped his brother-in-law on his farm as well. He served in the US Army during WWII. Following his discharge, Don settled in Sioux Falls and began working at John Morrell Company. Don married Constance Harding on November 20, 1953 at Luverne, Minnesota. They lived in Sioux Falls where they raised their family. Don officially started Meyer?s Wild Game Farm in 1973, but had raised various animals and birds for most of his life. Don retired from John Morrell Company in 1982 after 33 years on the production line. Don and Connie had a produce garden in Brandon for many years and enjoyed visiting with customers. They were honored with a proclamation of Don and Connie Meyer Day on July 25, 2010 in Brandon. Don passed away August 28, 2010 at VA Medical Center. Don was a member of the Brandon VFW Post, the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Sioux Falls and the Minnesota Waterfowl Society. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. He is survived by his wife, Connie; four children and their spouses, Therressa and Steven Hurley, Sioux Falls, Ronald and Mary Meyer, Austin, MN, Robert and Joan Meyer of Garretson, Jolene and Thomas Kujawa of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren, Andrea, Donald, Ashley, Andrew, Shauna, Christopher, Nathan; five great grandchildren, Isaac, Anna, Miles, Ella, Marcus; a sister, Evelyn Erickson of Jasper, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Cynthia and Evelyn, a grandson, Daniel, and four sisters, Esther Hoyme, Lucy Rau, Iona Braa and Alice Larson.
