Arthur was born on March 11, 1945 in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland of the United Kingdom. He was the son of Robert Arthur Peden Templeman and Christina Crawford (Gibb) Templeman. His family came to the United States in 1949 and settled in Detroit, Michigan. Art grew up in Michigan and graduated from Finney High School in 1963.
Art served during the Viet Nam War in the US Navy from August of 1965 to August of 1969. He was a boilerman aboard the USS Deliver while he was based in Vallejo, California and aboard the USS Pyro in the Philippines. Following his discharge, Art returned to Detroit and worked as a machinist at the General Motors plant. Art was married to Wynette and they had three children together. He retired from General Motors after 20 years. Art later married Bonnie Tripp. He returned to work and worked with his son-in-law, Art, at Master Automatic Machine Company for another 10 years before retiring a second time. Art was known for his strong work ethic and seldom missed a day of work.
In his free time, Art enjoyed drawing and wood carving. Art's nickname was the "Thin Scotchman", which was his CB handle that stuck for most of his adult life.
Art is survived by his wife, Bonnie; six children, twenty-five great grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alex. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cecilia.
