Candis Carpenter Newman was born in Sioux Falls, SD on May 9, 1956 to Genevieve and Donald Carpenter. She was one of ten children which grew to a large extended family whom she loved very much.
Candy went to school in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School in 1974. During high school, she met the love of her life, James (Jim) Newman and they were married on June 13, 1974. This marriage was blessed with three children, Gary, Jeremiah and Christina along with nine grandchildren. They were all a big part of Candy and Jim’s life and are very loved.
Candy had various jobs throughout her life and was working in the retail sector at the time of her passing.
Candy loved animals and always had a soft spot in her heart for an animal that needed to be cared for and loved. Candy enjoyed the plants, flowers and garden that she and Jim planted together throughout the years. Everyone who knew Candy witnessed her big, kind heart and desire to let them know they were important to her.
Candy and Jim enjoyed a lot of camping over the years. Many times, this was to join valued friends who shared the loved for music. It was important for Candy to be part of the music family that was created and a way to support Jim. If there was an opportunity for Candy to be at a campfire with friends or family and listen to music this was where you would find her.
Candy touched many people’s lives over the years with her loving heart and positive words of encouragement. She will be forever loved and missed by all that knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jim; three children, Gary and his wife, Melissa, of Crooks, Jeremiah of Sioux Falls and Christina of Canton; nine grandchildren; five siblings, Sandy Polzin, Cheryl (Gary) Strang, Karla (Dave) Newman, Kim (Tom) Green and Rodney (Jane) Carpenter; and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Genevieve; grandparents, Ida and Ray Carpenter, Blanch and Glenn Adams; four siblings, Buddy Carpenter, Ronald Carpenter, Debbie Carpenter and Pamela McDowell.
