Candis Carpenter Newman was born in Sioux Falls, SD on May 9, 1956 to Genevieve and Donald Carpenter. She was one of ten children which grew to a large extended family whom she loved very much.

Candy went to school in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School in 1974. During high school, she met the love of her life, James (Jim) Newman and they were married on June 13, 1974. Candy had various jobs throughout her life and was working in the retail sector at the time of her passing.

Candy loved animals and always had a soft spot in her heart for an animal that needed to be cared for and loved. Candy enjoyed the plants, flowers and garden that she and Jim planted together throughout the years. Everyone who knew Candy witnessed her big, kind heart and desire to let them know they were important to her.

Candy and Jim enjoyed a lot of camping over the years. Many times, this was to join valued friends who shared the loved for music. It was important for Candy to be part of the music family that was created and a way to support Jim.
