Delbert Eugene Heesch was born December 15, 1923 in Corson, South Dakota to Claus and Mae (Zweep) Heesch. He passed away peacefully July 21, 2018 at the age of 94.
Delbert attended Fairview Country School and graduated from Garretson High School in 1943. Delbert married Matie Waddle on October 27, 1946.
In his lifetime, Del was a farmer, an implement dealer and an owner-operator truck driver for 45 years. It is estimated he drove over 6 million miles. He then worked as a parts runner for Zomers and retired when he was 83 years old.
Delbert was a member of a church at Garretson and the First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls. He served as an usher for many years and as a member of the Men’s Breakfast Club. He served on the Summit Hill Cemetery Association for 49 years, where he planted trees and sponsored the directory sign.
He is survived by his wife, Matie, and six children, Allen (Carol) Heesch, Rebecca (James) Voll, Lowell (Patty) Heesch, Calvin (Pam) Heesch, Virginia (Kenneth) Greger and Nyle (Jill) Heesch; 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; a brother, Wesley; and several nieces and nephews.
Greeting him in Heaven will be his parents; a brother, Marvin; and his great grandchild, Ashely.
