Deloris M. Harmon, age 96 of Sioux Falls, died September 19, 2023 at Ava’s House Hospice. She was born on January 15, 1927 in Centuria, WI to Emma (Borchard) Hackman and Rudolph Hackman. Growing up, Deloris’ family moved many times throughout Minnesota for farming. In 1946 she graduated from high school in Canby, MN then went on to complete teacher training at Sioux Falls College. Two days after finishing her training, Deloris began teaching at Lantoff Country School.
On August 24, 1947 Deloris married the love of her life, Millard Harmon, at Canton Lutheran Church. Together they welcomed five children and lived in Canton, SD until moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1956 when Millard took a job with Augustana College. Deloris ran a daycare in their home right across the street from Augustana until 1987. She was thankful to have taken care of many children, but most notably, 9 of her 10 grandchildren.
Deloris was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, enjoyed camping at the Newton Hills, loved spending time with her family, and logged countless hours in the kitchen making her famous cookies, buns, macaroni, and noodle soup.
Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Steven Harmon, daughter Mary (Tom) Hanson, daughter Tammie Harmon, sister Sonja Estes, ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 51 years, Millard Harmon, her son Charles Harmon, her daughter Vickie Marnach, son-in-law Mike Marnach, two sisters and two brothers.
In lieu of flowers, Deloris’ wish was for memorials to be sent to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church - Television Ministries.
