Georgie Smith

Georgie Lee Smith was born on July 31, 1949 in Vardaman, Mississippi, the son of Mary Lois Davison. He grew up Louisiana and graduated from high school.

George worked in the construction field for many years. He met Ruth Banks in 1976 while living in Robbins, Illinois. They were married in 1981 and lived in Robbins for 18 years and then moved to Kankakee, Illinois. He served as a Deacon at the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Kankakee. George retired in the early 2000’s. He and Ruth moved to South Dakota in 2013 and lived in Tea.

George enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and loved eating. He liked watching sports and was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings.

George was 74 years old when he passed away on February 1, 2024 at Dougherty Hospice House.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; two sons, Edward (Carolyn) Smith and Dwayne Banks; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild; three siblings, Porter Henderson, Willy (Karen) Henderson and Demetress Davison and her son, Demetre Evans; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephew; and many friends. 

George was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lois Davison and a son, Morris.
