Gerald Junior Buchholz was born on January 20, 1944 to Erwin and Bertha (Guthmiller) Buchholz In Tripp, SD. He passed away on December 17, 2024 at the age of 80. He attended school in Tripp and graduated in 1962. After graduation, he worked at the State Hospital from 1963-1965. He then joined the Army on October 20, 1965. He served during the Vietnam War as a medic. He was united in marriage to Maria Parisien on March 15th, 1968. They lived in Sioux City and the settled in Jefferson, SD. They welcomed their first son on June 17, 1970, then another son on July 3rd, 1971. Their last child was born on July 18, 1977.
After his discharge from the military in 1971, he went to work at Sioux City Cold Storage until he broke his back in 1988. Gerald and Maria were divorced that same year and he moved back to his hometown of Tripp to be close to his mother. He worked for the nursing home in Tripp until he had to have his leg amputated in 1998. Following that, he moved to Sioux Falls where he worked for his nephew Bob Nyreen at Bob’s Janitor Service until he retired in 2008.
He enjoyed the great outdoors. He thrived when he was hunting, fishing, and camping. Unfortunately, he had to give most of these up when he lost his leg, He did enjoy fishing with the VA when they took him fishing and pheasant hunting with the other disabled veterans. In his most recent years, he enjoyed watching Westerns, especially the older ones.
Gerald is survived by his son David and Tracey Buchholz (SF), and their children, Cassie and Jeff Moser(Lester, IA), Alyssa Buchholz (sf) , and a great-grand son Kyler Moser. Son, Shawn Buchholz (SF) a daughter, Lisa Yarber (SF), and her children Jeanette Jenkins (SF), Jonathan Jenkins (SF), and Joshua Jenkins (SF). Two sisters, Arleen Nyreen (Sioux City, IA) and Lillian Hauck (Oregon), and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Proceeded in death by his parents Erwin and Bertha Buchholz, his ex-wife Maria Buchholz, a granddaughter, Geri Maria Buchholz, 2 brothers, Don and Rudy Buchholz, brother-in-law Danny Nyreen, and a niece Mary Nyreen
