Karen was born August 25, 1944 in Brookings, SD to George and Goldie (Thorpe) Brugman. She grew up and attended school in Hetland and Lake Preston, SD where she graduated in 1962.

Growing up Karen enjoyed fishing and hunting with her dad and roller skating where she met her first husband Paul Jacob. She and Paul were united in marriage in Kileen, TX in 1963. Two children, son Steven Paul and daughter Tonda Rae, were born to this union.

Karen was united to Max Putney in Sioux Falls, SD in 1986 and was blessed to gain three sons Mike, Jeff and Ken, and four daughters Wendy, Sandra, Susan and Cheryl.

Karen loved camping, fishing and riding motorcycles, playing cards and penny slots. Most of all she loved spending time with family and friends, sharing stories, love and laughter. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and her kindness to all she met.

During her working years she wore many hats. She was a Nurse's Aide, a Machinist and even a Truck Driver. She retired from Hutchinson's Technology, but later returned to the workforce and eventually retired for good from Walmart. Her longest profession was waiting tables, where she met the love of her life, Max, and they would have celebrated 38 years of marriage on April 10th.
