Karen Jean Weisz

Karen Jean Weisz, age 79, passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital on June 19, 2023, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Karen was born on September 23, 1943, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Irving and Bertha (VanRyte) Petrie. She grew up in Sheboygan Falls and was the fourth oldest of 12 children, she graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1962.

After high school, Karen lived in the Sheboygan Falls area and was united in marriage to Randy Weisz, they shared 23 years together and had 5 children.  She worked in a canning factory, while in Wisconsin. She moved to Eureka SD in 1966 and was a stay-at-home mom and housewife. She later moved to Hecla and then Andover SD where she worked hard in her family restaurant. She got divorced from Randy and several years later got remarried but that marriage didn’t work out, so she divorced again and spent the rest of her life as a single lady. She worked several jobs to support her then two children.

Her kind heart and fun-loving soul brought smiles and laughter to many. She enjoyed family, playing cards, her Bible study group, singles group, Tops group and traveling to Wisconsin to see family & friends. Her kids, grandkids and great grandkids became her life and she doted on them all.

Karen is survived by her children Wanda (Terry) Block, Scott (Jill) Weisz, Kim (Marc) Runnels, Michael Weisz, Kandi (Carl) Weismantel plus ten grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

Karen was proceeded in death by her parents and siblings Tony Petrie, Marlene Essman, Rita Ertl, Adrian Petrie and great-grandsons Liam & Leighton Roach
