Kathy Schuette (Sarah Katherine Fey), was born on April 14, 1951 in Livingston, Montana at the Park County Hospital. She is the daughter of Betty Gramm (Wolentez). As a child, Kathy was fortunate to spend summers with her grandparents in Montana where they had lots of adventures camping, rafting, and she learned the great art of storytelling from her grandfather, Lester Wolentez. As a little girl she had curly auburn hair that shone red in the sun. Kathy was a spitfire, a creative artist, an explorer and gymnast.
Kathy left home at a young age, to begin her own adventures taking her to Denver CO, Minneapolis MN, and Corpus Christi TX, where she survived a hurricane. From there, Kathy settled in Berkeley, CA where she especially loved the Bodega Bay and the Russian River area. Kathy eventually made a home in Napa Valley, CA where she kept her beloved horses and dogs. While in Napa, she began taking child development courses and volunteered at the suicide hotline and the children's toy library. Kathy worked at the California state hospital, where she met Jim Comyns and in 1978 they welcomed their son, Josh Fey, into the world. After wildfires swept the area, Kathy returned to South Dakota where she worked as a caregiver in group homes for people with disabilities. It was here she met her former spouse, Mark Schuette, and in 1985 they welcomed their daughter, Allison DeSchepper (Schuette), to complete their family of four.
While making a life in Sioux Falls, Kathy worked for many years at Hutchinson Technology where she made several lifelong friends. She rounded out her career as a school bus driver where she touched the lives of many students and teachers alike. Kathy enjoyed grilling meals with family, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. Kathy was a sensitive soul who embraced others with the biggest heart. She loved fiercely and family was the most important thing to her. She gave her all to her children and was an amazing Nana to her four grandchildren. She was so proud of her grandchildren who she will be forever watching over and cheering them on in all that they do.
Kathy arrived in Heaven on Friday, July 21, 2023. She will be very missed by her children, Josh Fey and Allison DeSchepper (Chris); father, Jim Gramm; sisters, Jo Schmidt, Allie Gramm, and Susie Gramm Hermann; grandchildren, Mason, Cobey, Alex, and Hailey. Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Gramm and niece, Heather Davis (Quigley).
