Lyle Goodroad

Lyle was born on September 11, 1945 at Sturgis, South Dakota, the son of Lyle and Dorothy Goodroad. He grew up in Sturgis and Oregon. He lived in New Plymouth, Idaho for several years before coming to Sioux Falls in 1990.

Lyle moved to Sioux Falls and began receiving support with LifeScape in March of 1992. Lyle lived in various homes throughout his time with LifeScape and most recently at the Hollister House. Lyle was a hardworking man. Most of all, Lyle loved working on cars. He worked for Electronics Systems, Excell Fire Equipment, and Village Automotive. He also worked in the automotive department at LifeScape as an assistant to the mechanics helping with changing the agency vehicle’s oil and other various tasks. Lyle also spent time working in the LifeScape production department helping with Pella Windows’ strings and pulleys. Faith was important to Lyle, he attended church with the Salvation Army and loved volunteering his time to ring the bell during Christmas.

Lyle loved to fish, ride his bike around town, attend local car shows, and travel with his friends. Most of all, Lyle loved attending professional baseball games around the Midwest and traveling to the Black Hills. Gardening was important to Lyle; he especially enjoyed planting and eating tomatoes.

Lyle always liked to be helpful. Whether it was shoveling the driveway, working on cars, or doing chores around the house, he always would jump in and lend a hand to his staff. Lyle’s team appreciated his hard work ethic, lighthearted kindness, and mischievous ways. He will be greatly missed at the Hollister House by his staff and peers.

Lyle is survived by his siblings, Darrel Baldwin, Linda Freeman, Judy Osterberg and Gary Goodroad. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Larry Baldwin and Jerry Apperson.
