Martin Clae Skillman

Marty passed away Jan. 3, 2024 at Ava's House in Sioux Falls.

Martin was born on December 1, 1943 in Appleton, Minnesota, the son of Walter and Lydia (Mellon) Skillman. He grew up at attended school at Appleton. 

Marty married Janice Van Vinkle on August 1, 1962 in Appleton. Marty worked for the Milwaukee Rail Road for several years on the rail repair crew. He and Janice lived in Appleton, Shakopee, Ortonville, Appleton and then lived in Sioux Falls from 1971 – 1976 and then made Worthing their home. 

Marty worked for JW Window Components for 25 years and then Dakota Balance.

Marty enjoyed coaching baseball and playing softball and he and his sons played on the same team for a few years. Marty was a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and the Minneapolis Lakers and remained a fan of the team when they moved to Los Angeles. He also enjoyed gardening.

Marty is survived by his wife, Janice; five sons, Dean, Jim (Sylvia) Joe (Janet), Jerry and Marty (Jeanie); six grandchildren, Sarah, Rylee, Madie, Ava, Nick, and Nate; and three great grandchildren, California, Chicago and Monroe; and a sister, Mary (Don) Anderson. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Cathy and Florence.
