Monty Ray Colvin passed away on August 30, 2024, at the age of 70, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Born on April 7, 1954, in Lead, South Dakota, Monty lived a life marked by dedication, love, and faith.
After graduating from Lead High School in 1972, Monty honorably served in the Army, where he developed a strong sense of duty that would define his later professional and personal life. Following his military service, Monty embarked on a successful career as an Auto-Cad Draftsman in Electrical Engineering, where he worked for over 40 years in Utah and Houston.
Monty's life was greatly enriched by his marriage to Debra J. Varns Colvin, with whom he shared 52 years of love and commitment.
Monty was a beloved father to Dorian and his wife Alycia Colvin of Flandreau, SD. He was a cherished brother to Nancy and Chuck Gruba of Rapid City, SD. Monty's joy was multiplied as a grandfather to Alexandria Louise Baxter of Painsville, Ohio, and Hali and her husband Tyler Pepper of Buckeye, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, June and Lee Colvin Jr., his daughter Serena J. Colvin, and his in-laws, Virginia and Harvey Varns, as well as his brother-in-law, Kenneth L. Varns, all of whom are buried in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
As per his wishes, there will be no memorial service except at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota, with the date and time to be announced later.
In this difficult time, the family finds solace in their faith, knowing that Monty has joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in God's Kingdom.
