It is with sad hearts and smiles of joy that the family of Olevia Crayton Wright announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great great grandmother on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 12:32 p.m at the age 102 years old.
Olevia will be remembered by her daughters Brindia Hall and Joyce Dobson; a host of grand-children and great great grandchildren.
Olevia was born Dec. 25, 1915 in Meeker, Louisiana to Sip Crayton and Mary (Adderson) Crayton. She loved serving God as a Steward Sister at Starlight Baptist Church in Alexandria, LA. She worked as a Maid and a Cook. She was great at telling her life’s stories and reading poetry which help to encourage and instill independence in anyone she talked to. She married Willie Wright on Jan. 16, 1950 and he was the love of her life til his passing on June 5, 1982. Olevia superseded her second child in life Gloria Grimble and leaves to mourn her oldest (Brindia) and youngest children (Joyce). Anyone who knew of Olevia would know her for her infamous ability to walk everywhere with spunk with pep in her step and her gracious yet soft spoken and humbling voice.
For her grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, we often found ourselves engrossed in her stories of work and life which always had great meaning and uplifting words of encouragement. She never was one to show anger or hatred and raised us all to have the same mentality. She would always look at us if we did wrong with a distinctive frown on her forehead which was enough for all of us. We all love, loved and will love her no matter if she is here on earth or in heaven looking down on us and will forever do our best to make her proud and smile.
Olevia will be laid to rest at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Alexandria, LA with her husband Willie Wright.
