Richard L. Peskey Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls SD. He was 77 years old.
Richard was born on March 24, 1946, in Huron, South Dakota, to Edward and Evelyn Peskey. He grew up on the family farm, learning the value of hard work and responsibility at a young age. Known for his quick wit and a knack for tinkering with machinery, Richard was a natural with anything mechanical.
On March 26, 1966, Richard married the love of his life, Carolynn Landers. Together, they raised five children: DeLores (Colin) Royal of Huron, Richard (Heather) Peskey Jr. of Huron, Edward (Candy) Peskey III of Rochester, MN, Donald Peskey II of Virgina, and Evelyn Peskey of Huron. Richard dedicated himself to providing for his family, working as a mechanic for many years.
Beyond his work, Richard cherished spending time with his family. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the importance of family, hard work, and a good laugh. He was a devoted husband to Carolynn for 49 years until her passing in 2015.
Richard will be deeply missed by his five children, his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and a lifetime of friends who hold dear the memories they shared.
Richard had a lifelong love for animals and believed in giving all creatures a loving home. In lieu of flowers or memorials, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter. A celebration of life will be held at the campus center in the Pyle room March 21, 2024 from 3-6pm in Huron.
